Salesforce AI Certifications in 2026: Which One Fits Your Role

Header image: Salesforce AI certifications in 2026, which AI credential fits your role and what replaced AI Associate.

Hey friends,

In 2026, the main Salesforce AI certification is the Agentforce Specialist (AI-201) exam. The Agentforce Sales Consultant and Agentforce Service Consultant exams cover AI within those clouds and need the Administrator cert first. The old AI Associate certification was retired in February 2026 and replaced, for beginners, by Agentblazer Status on Trailhead.

I get asked "which AI cert should I take?" more than almost anything else right now. Here's the lineup, who each one is for, and the order I'd take them in.

The lineup

Agentforce Specialist is the one most people should start with.

What happened to AI Associate?

The AI Associate credential page on Trailhead now says Salesforce launched Agentblazer Status to build and recognize AI and Agentforce skills, and as a result retired the AI Associate certification in February 2026. If you were planning to take it, you can't. I covered the details in what replaced the AI Associate exam.

Agentforce Specialist (AI-201)

The guide describes it as being for people who design and implement prompt templates and agents, aimed at administrators, developers and architects. A typical candidate has about a year of Salesforce configuration experience, including Data 360, and hands-on time building agents and prompt templates.

Why it's the default pick: no prerequisite, it covers the whole Agentforce stack (agents, Prompt Builder, Data 360 grounding, testing and deployment), and it lines up with the Agentblazer Legend trail, whose page lists passing the AI Specialist certification.

Agentforce Sales and Service Consultant

These are consulting exams for people implementing Agentforce inside Sales Cloud or Service Cloud for customers. Both require the Administrator certification first, and both expect real project experience: the Sales guide asks for a year or more with Salesforce and sales processes.

If you aren't in a consulting or implementation role, I'd skip these for now. The Service exam's 78% passing score is one of the highest I've seen.

Agentblazer Status: the free on-ramp

Agentblazer Status isn't a proctored exam. It's three Trailhead trails, refreshed for 2026, that you can earn or renew each year:

  • Champion: explain Agentforce concepts and business value, write prompts in Prompt Builder and build a basic agent.
  • Innovator: plan, test, troubleshoot and deploy agents, including retrieval augmented generation (RAG) and superbadge builds.
  • Legend: advanced customization with prompts, flows and Apex, Data 360 grounding, Testing Center, and developer tools like Agentforce DX, the Agent API and the Models API.

It's free and it's good prep for AI-201. I go through the trails and the modules worth your time in the best Agentforce Trailhead modules.

Which order should you take them in?

What AI skills do these roles actually use?

I won't quote salary numbers I can't source. What I can tell you is what the exam guides say the work involves, because that's what hiring managers test for:

  • Building agents: subagents, actions, instructions and variables in Agentforce Builder.
  • Prompt engineering: prompt templates grounded with CRM data, flows, Apex and retrievers.
  • Data: getting the right knowledge into Data 360 so agents can retrieve it.
  • Trust and governance: the Einstein Trust Layer, masking, audit trail and model access.
  • Testing and deployment: Testing Center, sandboxes and moving agents to production.

If you can show a working agent and explain those five areas in an interview, that matters more than the badge. For the wider picture, see my take on where Salesforce careers are heading.
