Hey friends,
If you want one Agentforce certification and you work as an admin, developer or architect, take Agentforce Specialist. It has no prerequisite and it's the exam about building agents and prompt templates. The two Agentforce Consultant exams are for people who implement Sales Cloud or Service Cloud for customers, and both ask for the Administrator certification first.
I checked the exam guides for all of these so you don't have to piece them together. Everything factual below comes from Salesforce's own pages (Specialist, Sales Consultant, Service Consultant and Sales Foundations exam guides, plus Trailhead). The "which first" advice is mine.
The four main Agentforce exams side by side
| Specialist | Sales Consultant | Service Consultant | Sales Foundations | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aimed at | Admins, developers and architects who build agents and prompt templates | Consultants implementing Agentforce Sales for customers | Consultants implementing Agentforce Service for customers | Sales reps with 6 months to 3 years of experience |
| Prerequisite | None | Administrator certification | Platform Administrator certification | None |
| Typical experience | About 1 year of platform configuration | 1+ years with Salesforce and sales processes | 2 to 5 years of professional experience | 6 months to 3 years as a sales rep |
| Questions | 60, plus up to 5 unscored | 60, plus up to 5 unscored | 60, plus up to 5 unscored | 40, plus up to 5 unscored |
| Passing score | 72% | 73% (English) | 78% | 70% |
| Fee / retake | $200 / $100 | $200 / $100 | $200 / $100 | $75 / free |
| Guide aligned to | Spring '26 release | Summer '25 release | Summer '25 release | Winter '24 release |
The three $200 exams give you 105 minutes. Fees are plus applicable taxes. Salesforce also lists a time limit for Sales Foundations, but its guide and its certification page disagree, so I've left it out. Check the current guide before you book, and see what Salesforce certifications cost for the full fee table.
Which one fits you?

Start with the row that matches the work you do today.
- Admin, developer or architect: Agentforce Specialist. The guide says it targets administrators, developers and architects, and that you aren't expected to know the basics of Apex or Python. So an admin can sit it as is.
- Consultant on Sales Cloud projects: Agentforce Sales Consultant, after your Administrator cert. The guide describes someone with experience implementing in a customer-facing role.
- Consultant on Service Cloud projects: Agentforce Service Consultant, after your Administrator cert. It has the highest passing score of the four, at 78%.
- Sales rep, new to Salesforce: Agentforce Sales Foundations. It's the one exam on this list with a $75 fee and a free retake, and it tests sales skills like deal management, not configuration.
- Just exploring Agentforce: start with Agentblazer Status on Trailhead. It's free learning, not a proctored exam, and it's recommended prep for Specialist.
What each exam really tests
This is the part that is easy to miss. "Agentforce" in the name doesn't mean the exam is about building agents. Here are the section weights from the guides:
| Exam | Sections and weights |
|---|---|
| Specialist | AI Agents 35%, Prompt Engineering 20%, Data 360 Fundamentals 20%, Testing, Deployment, and Maintenance 10%, Governance and Observability 10%, Multi-Agent Orchestration 5% |
| Sales Consultant | Consulting and Implementation Strategies 25%, Practical Application of Agentforce Sales Expertise 24%, Sales Lifecycle 20%, Data Management 18%, Predictive and Generative AI 13% |
| Service Consultant | Agentforce Service Solution Design 15%, Intake and Interaction Channels 13%, Case Management 13%, Contact Center Analytics 13%, Industry Knowledge 12%, Implementation Strategies 12%, Knowledge Management 12%, Integrations 10% |
| Sales Foundations | Deal Management 37%, Planning 21%, Customer Engagement 15%, Pipeline Management 12%, Customer Success 9%, Forecasting 6% |
So Specialist is the exam about agents, prompt templates, Data 360 grounding and the agent lifecycle. The Sales Consultant exam is mostly consulting and sales-process knowledge, with 13% on predictive and generative AI. In the Service Consultant guide, AI agents show up inside the Intake and Interaction Channels section ("recommend an appropriate use for AI agents in the customer service process") and the rest is classic Service Cloud design: knowledge, cases, entitlements, analytics.
If you want the deep dive on one of them, I've written study guides for Specialist, Sales Consultant and Service Consultant. If you're new to the platform itself, Agentforce explained is the best starting point.

This is my advice, not a Salesforce rule:
- Administrator first if you don't have it. Both consultant exams require it, and the Specialist guide lists Platform Administrator and Platform App Builder as recommended, not required. My post on the Administrator certification covers how to approach it.
- Agentforce Specialist next, even if you plan to consult. It's the exam that makes you comfortable with agents, prompts and Data 360, and AI shows up in both consultant guides too.
- Then the consultant exam for the cloud you work in. Pick the one that matches your projects. Don't collect both unless your clients need both.
My earlier post on Salesforce AI certifications looks at the same exams by job role, and the certification study guides hub has a guide for every exam I cover.
If you go the consultant route, I built the Agentforce Sales Consultant and Agentforce Service Consultant Cert Labs at nickfrates.com, with lessons and practice for each guide's sections. For an extra step up, Salesforce's Field Service and Operations Consultant credential lists the Service Consultant and Platform Administrator certifications as prerequisites (Trailhead).
The other Agentforce credentials in the catalog
Salesforce's certification overview lists more credentials with Agentforce in the name. They're narrower, so you'll know if one applies to you:
- Consultant exams for industries: Agentforce Life Sciences Consultant and Agentforce Nonprofit Consultant. Both list the Platform Administrator certification as a prerequisite and cost $200 (Life Sciences, Nonprofit). The Field Service and Operations Consultant sits in the same group, with the prerequisites above.
- Accredited Professional credentials: Agentforce Communications, Consumer Goods, Financial Services, Health, Manufacturing and 360 for Public Sector. These are listed separately from the certifications above.
What happened to the AI Associate?
Salesforce retired the AI Associate certification in February 2026 and launched Agentblazer Status in its place for building and showing AI skills. Its credential page says so, so don't plan around it. I covered what replaced it in more detail. Agentblazer has three levels (Champion, Innovator, Legend), and the Legend level lists earning the Agentforce certification as one of its goals. My post on the best Agentforce Trailhead modules shows which ones are worth the time.
Mistakes that trip people up
- Assuming a consultant exam teaches you to build agents. It doesn't. The weights above show where the exam time goes.
- Skipping the prerequisite. Both consultant guides list an Administrator certification. Plan for it, rather than finding out when you try to register.
- Comparing passing scores as if the exams were the same. They range from 70% to 78%. The Service Consultant exam asks the most.
- Mixing up versions. The guides say which release the questions align to. Specialist is on Spring '26 and both consultant guides say Summer '25, so use materials that match the guide you're reading.
- Forgetting maintenance. The guides say you complete a maintenance module on Trailhead once a year or the certification expires.
