Hey friends,
A Salesforce Sales Cloud consultant turns a company's sales goals into a working Sales Cloud setup. They run discovery, design the lead-to-cash process, configure and migrate data, then drive training and adoption so the sales team actually uses it.
Sales Cloud is now branded Agentforce Sales (Trailhead calls it "Agentforce Sales (formerly Sales Cloud)"), but most job posts still say Sales Cloud consultant. This post explains the role through the lens of the official Agentforce Sales Consultant exam guide, which spells out what Salesforce expects a consultant to know and do.
What does a Sales Cloud consultant do day to day?

The job runs from the first discovery workshop to long after go-live.
The exam guide's list of skills reads like a job description. A consultant is expected to:
- Create statements of work (SOWs) and scope projects accurately.
- Conduct discovery workshops, analyze requirements and prioritize use cases.
- Translate business requirements into solutions that help sales teams work from anywhere.
- Anticipate and mitigate risk, and manage customer expectations.
- Set up change management so the solution lasts.
- Troubleshoot, prioritize and escalate customer issues.
What do they actually build?
The core build is an end-to-end sales process "from Lead to Opportunity to Quote to Close," in the guide's words. In practice that means:
- Lead capture, assignment and conversion.
- Opportunity stages, sales processes and Path.
- Products, price books, quotes, and multi-currency where needed.
- A security model built from roles, sharing rules, account teams, opportunity teams and permission sets.
- Forecasting, territories, and reports and dashboards for the KPIs leadership cares about.
- Predictive and generative AI features, applied with Salesforce's Trusted AI Principles.
Who does a consultant work with?
Trailhead's Sales Cloud rollout module recommends a success team with four key players. A consultant spends most of their week with these people:
| Role | Why the consultant needs them |
|---|---|
| Executive sponsor | Prioritizes and approves how the team's time is spent |
| Operations manager | Knows the day-to-day sales process best |
| End users | Test the setup and give feedback |
| Admin | Makes changes and manages the implementation |
Here's why I care about practice questions so much. I earned 17 Salesforce certifications, and Focus on Force was a big part of that. My early approach was study guide first, tests later. Flipping it, taking practice tests fast and often, cut my study time way down. Cert Lab is my version of that: fast testing with explanations that link to current Salesforce docs and screenshots.

Trailhead uses Cloud Kicks, a shoe company, as its example. Its goals turned into SMART metrics like these, which a consultant would then build reports and dashboards around:
| Business goal | Success metric |
|---|---|
| One place to see deals in real time | Deals closed to date versus the goal |
| Understand ROI by lead origin | Total pipeline amount by lead source and location |
| Know which activities close deals | Activities logged per opportunity, by type |
That's the job in miniature: start from goals, agree on how success is measured, then configure Sales Cloud to produce those numbers.
What skills does the role need?
The guide describes the target candidate as having 1+ years of Salesforce experience with sales processes, a solid grasp of the consulting process, deep Agentforce Sales feature knowledge, data management skills and strong presentation skills for every level of an organization.
From my own work, the people who do well in this role are the ones who ask "why" in discovery and can say no to a feature that doesn't serve a goal.
Which certification proves it?
The Salesforce Certified Agentforce Sales Consultant credential. It requires the Salesforce Administrator certification first. My Agentforce Sales Consultant study guide covers the five exam sections, and Sales Consultant prerequisites covers what you need before you book.
What mistakes do new consultants make?
- Configuring before discovery. Goals and metrics should steer the build, not the other way around.
- Skipping end users. Trailhead's advice: the first time you train users shouldn't be the first time they hear about the project.
- Treating go-live as the finish line. The guide expects you to plan for low adoption and changing requirements.
- Custom code by default. Know when declarative tools are enough before reaching for development.
