The best Salesforce certification for beginners is Platform Foundations if you've never used Salesforce, and Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator if you already use Salesforce at work. Platform Foundations (formerly Salesforce Certified Associate) has no prerequisite and is built for people with up to 6 months of user experience.

Platform Foundations vs Administrator: which is easier?

Platform Foundations is the easier, shorter exam. It has fewer questions, a lower passing score and a lower fee. Here are the numbers straight from the exam guides:

Find the row that sounds like you.

Choose Platform Foundations if you're switching careers, still learning what an Account vs a Contact is, or want a confidence win. Is Platform Foundations worth it if I plan to take Admin?

Yes, if you're brand new. It builds the vocabulary the Administrator exam assumes, and the retake is free, so a first attempt costs you little. If you already work in Salesforce daily, I'd skip it and go straight to Admin.

I learned most of what I know by testing myself fast and often. Focus on Force was the resource I loved early on, and rapid-fire practice tests were what made things stick. Certs brought me interviews, hires, raises and new domains to work in, but they work best alongside hands-on experience, not instead of it.

Mistakes beginners make picking a first cert
