Hi friends,
Take the Agentforce Sales Consultant exam first if your work is opportunities, forecasts, quotes and territories; take the Agentforce Service Consultant exam first if your work is cases, routing, knowledge and service channels. Both need the Platform Administrator certification, both are 60 scored questions in 105 minutes, and both cost $200 ($100 to retake). The real differences are the passing score (73% vs 78%), how the content is spread, and which one matches the projects you can talk about in an interview.

Salesforce renamed both credentials on July 24, 2026 (16 certifications were renamed that day). The exam content didn’t change with the name, and both guides still align questions to the Summer ’25 release. Exam facts above come from the official credential pages on Trailhead and the current exam guides; my full breakdowns are in the Sales Consultant study guide and the Service Consultant study guide.
Which consultant exam should you take first?
Pick Sales Consultant first if you’ve built opportunity stages, sales paths, forecast types or price books, or you sit next to a sales team. The 25% consulting section rewards people who’ve run discovery and requirements sessions, and the lower 73% bar leaves a little more room for a weak area.
Pick Service Consultant first if you’ve set up cases, queues, assignment rules, Email-to-Case or a console app. The eight sections are evenly spread, so there’s no single section to lean on, and the 78% bar means you need to be solid everywhere. That’s harder to cram but easier for people who’ve actually run a service org.
If you’ve done neither, start with Service Consultant only if your next job is likely to be a support org, because service work is easier to practice in a free Developer Edition org: cases, queues, Email-to-Case and a console app all work there. Pipeline work is too, but forecasting and territory scenarios feel abstract without real sales data.

Less than people expect. Both test consulting skills (discovery, requirements, change management and adoption) and data quality and migration, and both now include Agentforce and AI scenarios. That shared layer is maybe a fifth of each exam. The rest is product-specific: you won’t see territory models on Service Consultant or Omni-Channel routing on Sales Consultant.
So passing one doesn’t make the other easy, but it does mean the second exam’s consulting questions will feel familiar. Most people I talk to take the second exam within a few months while the consulting mindset is still fresh.
Which one helps your career more?
Pick the one that matches the job posts you’re applying to. Consulting partners staff by cloud, and a Service Cloud project wants a Service Consultant on the team, not a Sales Consultant. If you’re in-house, look at which cloud your company spends more on. The cert you can back up with a real project story in an interview is worth more than the one with the bigger keyword volume.

Mistakes I see with consultant exams
- Studying click paths instead of scenarios. Most questions describe a business problem and ask for the best design. Knowing where a setting lives rarely gets you the point.
- Skipping the consulting section. On Sales Consultant it’s the biggest section at 25%, and admins lose the most points there.
- Using old Sales Cloud or Service Cloud names. The exams still use some product names that changed in your org (for example Enhanced Chat and Salesforce Voice on the service side). Learn both names.
- Booking without the Admin cert. Platform Administrator is a required prerequisite for both. Get it first, it’s the foundation the scenarios assume.

Do I need the Admin certification for the Sales or Service Consultant exam?
Yes. Platform Administrator is the required prerequisite for both the Agentforce Sales Consultant and Agentforce Service Consultant credentials.
Which is harder, Sales Consultant or Service Consultant?
Service Consultant has the higher passing score (78% vs 73%) and spreads its questions across eight sections, so most people find it harder to pass without hands-on service experience.
Are the Sales and Service Consultant exams the same length?
Yes. Both have 60 scored questions plus up to 5 unscored ones, with 105 minutes to finish.
Did the exams change when Salesforce renamed them?
No. The July 24, 2026 rename changed the credential names, not the exam content. Both guides still align to the Summer ’25 release.
Can I take both consultant exams?
Yes, and many consultants do. They share the consulting and data topics, so the second one usually goes faster.
Cert Lab gives you exam-style questions and hands-on practice tasks to make prep like this faster.
Hope this helps!
Best,
Nick
