Hey friends,
The best Salesforce admin learning path for beginners goes in this order: navigation, the data model, page layouts and apps, users and security, data quality, reports and dashboards, then automation with Flow. Learn each step on free Trailhead modules, build it yourself in a Trailhead Playground, and test yourself before moving on.
That order isn't random. Each step leans on the one before it, and together they cover the sections of the official Salesforce Certified Platform Administrator exam guide.

Do the practice task before you move to the next step. That's where it sticks.
Step 1: Learn to get around Salesforce
Start with Trailhead basics and the Salesforce Basics module. Sign up for a free Trailhead Playground so you have your own org to break. Learn the App Launcher, list views, record pages and global search.
Step 2: Understand objects, fields and records
This is the foundation for everything else. Work through Trailhead's Data Modeling module and my Salesforce basics guide. Then create a custom object with a few fields and a lookup to Account.
Step 3: Customize page layouts and apps
Now make your object usable. The page layouts unit shows how to control which fields people see and where. Put your object in a Lightning app so users can find it.
Step 4: Set up users and security
Security is the topic beginners skip and later regret. Learn to add users, then work through Trailhead's Data Security module, which controls access at four levels: the org, objects, fields and records. My Salesforce security model post has the big picture in one place.
Step 5: Protect data quality
Bad data kills adoption. Learn validation rules to block bad entries, formula fields to calculate values, and duplicate management to stop duplicate records. My validation rule patterns post has copyable examples.
Step 6: Build reports and dashboards
This is where admins earn trust fast. Trailhead's Reports and Dashboards module covers report types, filters, groupings and charts. Build a summary report of opportunities by stage, then put it on a dashboard.
Step 7: Automate with Flow
Flow is the main automation tool in Salesforce. Start with a record-triggered flow that updates a field when a record changes. My Salesforce Flow types post explains which flow to use when.
Quick backstory. When I studied for my first certs, Focus on Force was my favorite resource, and what made me learn fastest was rapid-fire practice tests: take a quiz, read why each miss was wrong, go again. I built Cert Lab around that loop, with current Help links and screenshots in the explanations. Certs have brought me interviews, a new job, raises and a way into new parts of the platform. They don't replace experience, though. The cert gets you the conversation; what you've built closes it.

My pass the Admin exam on your first try post covers the final prep.
Mistakes beginners make
- Reading without clicking. Every step needs hands-on time in a playground.
- Jumping to Flow first. Automation on a shaky data model creates messes.
- Skipping security. It's a big chunk of the exam and of real admin work.
- Never testing yourself. Practice questions show the gaps reading hides.
