Hey friends,
The best Salesforce Business Analyst training is a mix of three things: free Trailhead modules to learn each topic, the official Business Analyst Certification Prep module to check yourself, and fast practice tests to find your gaps before exam day. You don't need an expensive bootcamp. You do need practice answering scenario questions, because that's what the exam is.
Below is the training I'd use, mapped to the six exam sections from the official exam guide, in the order I'd do it.
What does the training need to cover?
The Business Analyst exam has 60 scored multiple-choice questions in 105 minutes, and you need 72% to pass. The six sections and weights:

Start with the two biggest sections: Collaboration with Stakeholders and Requirements.
Which free Salesforce Business Analyst courses should you take?
In this order. Each one is short, and together they cover the full exam outline.
- Salesforce Business Analyst: Quick Look: what the role is, the skills and the key activities. Start here.
- Business Analyst Skills and Strategies: communication, documentation types and discovery techniques.
- Customer-Centric Discovery Strategies and Journey Mapping: the Customer Discovery section.
- Business Process Mapping and Process Mapping for Business Analysts: Universal Process Notation (UPN) and mapping tools.
- User Story Creation: the format, acceptance criteria and INVEST. My user stories guide has worked examples.
- User Acceptance Testing, Scrum and Kanban at Salesforce and Salesforce Agile Basics: delivery and UAT.
- Git and GitHub Basics: the exam asks about keeping requirements and stories in a version-controlled repository.
- Manage the Salesforce Way: Trust and Influence: the stakeholder side of the job.
What is the official cert prep module?
Trailhead's Salesforce Business Analyst Certification Prep module has one unit per exam section. Each unit lists the topics, then gives a short set of unscored practice questions and flashcards, with a table pointing you back to the right module when you miss one.
It's free and it's written by Salesforce, so take it. The limit is volume: a handful of questions per section tells you whether you're close, not whether you're ready.
I learned most of what I know by testing myself fast and often. Focus on Force was the resource I loved early on, and rapid-fire practice tests were what made things stick. Cert Lab is my version of that: quick tests, explanations with current Help links and screenshots. Certs brought me interviews, hires, raises and new domains to work in, but they work best alongside hands-on experience, not instead of it.

More than feels comfortable. My rule: keep testing until you score well above 72% on questions you haven't seen before, on every section. Then take one timed full-length exam so 105 minutes doesn't surprise you.
Start with my free Business Analyst practice questions. Read the explanation for every option, including the ones you got right. That's where the learning is.
Can training replace experience?
No, and the exam guide is clear about this. It recommends 2 years of business analyst experience and 2 years of Salesforce experience. If you're short on both, practice the job: run a mock discovery session with a friend's business, map their process in UPN and write five user stories for it. That's also great interview material.
What does a simple study plan look like?
| Week | Focus |
|---|---|
| 1 | BA Quick Look, Skills and Strategies, Trust and Influence |
| 2 | Customer discovery, journey mapping, process mapping |
| 3 | Requirements, user stories, Git basics |
| 4 | UAT, Scrum and Kanban, the cert prep module |
| 5 | Practice tests by section, then a timed full exam |
Adjust to your background. If you already run workshops for a living, move faster through weeks 1 and 2. The Business Analyst study guide has the full objective list.
FAQ
Is there an official Salesforce Business Analyst course?
Trailhead has the free Salesforce Business Analyst Certification Prep module, plus the topic modules above. They're all free.
Is Trailhead enough to pass?
Trailhead covers the content. Most people also need a lot of scenario practice to pass, because the questions test judgment, not definitions.
Do I need the Admin cert first?
No. The exam has no prerequisite. Admin knowledge helps, and this comparison shows how the two overlap.
How long should I study?
If you already work as a BA, I'd plan on four to six weeks. Your practice test scores are the real signal.
